It's been a bad UAAP cheerdance year for UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe as they finished 4th this year. Just when you thought na kayang bawiin ng Salinggawi ang korona after 4 year title drought during UST's 400th year celebration, dun pa napunta sa 4th place. I actually hate number 4 now! :(
I am all HANDS and FEET up for UP Pep Squad. They really nailed it this year and proved that they deserve to defend their title from last year's championship. FEU actually did, "so-so" hence it's fine to be placed 3rd but for UST having missed out on the top 3? That is not acceptable.
Okay, bitter na kung bitter.. but UST Salinggawi should be given the place rightful for their performance. I mean, it's not really the "WOW" and "OMG!" factor of performance, but compared to other teams.. they should have placed 2nd or 3rd. NOT 4TH!
Infairness to UST's flawless and clean routines, amazing stunts and props - they are still my favorite! And in order to give myself enough reason and justice for this blog post / rant of mine, I made a bit of analysis on why UST landed on the 4th spot and why they should have been on the top 3 instead.
Reasons why you just have to give UST the 2nd or the 1st place:
-clean routines
-crisp stunts and uniform movements (walang naliligaw or nagkakagulo during their performance)
- cool props - the kind of props none of the other universities have used during the past years.
- Who would have thought they can bring in UST's Main Building inside Araneta Coliseum? Plus the dominican priest at the end part was cool and fun as well!
- Energetic cheerdancers, all out performance.
NOTE: Please be guided that these reasons are the same reasons why UST should be in the position of the team who placed 2nd this year.
Reasons wht UST didn't win:
-maybe the judges are a bit racist? Because of the cross thing in front of UST's costume - the judges might have some issues about it. Take note that the chosen judges are not here from the Philippines. If I'm not mistaken, most of them are from other countries who excelled in the field of gymnastics, dancing and the likes. (JUST AN OPINION)
- UST's performance was honestly boring during the beginning. I myself was like "yun na yun?" but they nailed it on the end part.
- Maybe the judges didn't get what the 400 at the end part meant. They should have researched or something. Judges might be a bit lost? (JUST AN OPINION)
- The chosen music was not really cool. I don't like the music at all.
- Salinggawi's movements are a bit slow. Not unlike UP which has the aggressiveness and "oomph" factor from beginning til end.
So okay, I'm having an open mind here and I can say that UST did a far better job last year than this year. I felt like they performed quite safely today - the aggressiveness and fast movements were all gone. How I wish the same old Salinggawi troupe will come back next year. The years where Non-Stop ice cream was still the sponsor, the years were Espana always has the glory.
But with all these, UST should have won at least a place. I'm not contesting on UP's capabilities. They deserve to be on top. But for others, I just can't really say enough!
We’ve got no classes for today until Sunday! I’m having mixed emotions about this.
First, of course I’m so happy because I’ve got ample time to rest and make up for those 3 to 4 hours of sleep and all those pressure made by the preparation for our General Assembly for Pre-Com Society. Second, I’m sad… because as what I’ve said…it’s because of our General Assembly. It’s supposed to be this coming Saturday but because of the class cancellation made by PGMA nationwide for SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) registration and elections, our GA is affected. Now we’ve got a very huge problem! All venue reservation was cancelled yesterday..even the band that we’ve asked to perform was cancelled. Tickets were already distributed to each classes, some already gave their payments for it and we don’t have any idea when will we re-schedule it. All venue reservations for September were already full.
No space for Pre-Com society…so sad! =(
At least the Mr. and Ms. Pre-com Personality Pageant is unmoved on Aug. 25. That must happen…I do hope there’s no class suspension on that day..if there’s any..we’re doomed! All our efforts were worthless..sayang talaga! The time that we’ve dedicated to make it successful was just blown away. I do hope that we can solve our problems soon.. Anyways, we just have to think positive! I believe that there’s a reason why these things happen. There’s a lot of more good things in store for us..we just have to believe and have faith! Just continue working hard..
Since we’ve got no classes…This will be the right time to update my blog. I really don’t have any more time to update here.. but since it’s my blog I think I already have an obligation for this. I must..but I enjoy it naman eh..=)
Just yesterday, I got so irritated dun sa isang professor ng NSTP. Since may mga rumors na mawawalan na rin ng classes on Saturday and Sunday, Me, Bea and Medz decided to ask their office located at the Tan Yan Kee building if the Preliminary examinations on Sunday will be postponed. When we’re there at their faculty room and asked for the Sunday classes..tinarayan pa kami nung isang girl dun. I’m disgusted dun sa reaction niya..she can say it nicely naman since we asked them in a polite way. But just last night..I’ve checked on our eleap (where announcements for NTSP are posted) that the prelims will cancelled. Well…that’s what you call karma! I just don’t like those kind of people..it’s better not to mingle with them..they’re not the kind of people to waste your time for. I’m glad that suspension are extended until Sunday..I’m not yet that prepared din kasi for the prelims..at least I’ve got more time pa to study. Oo nga pala, I have to start studying na rin for our preliminary examinations for our academic subjects. It will start on August 13. And we still have our departmental exam for Economics. Our departmental exam for Management was already cancelled. Our college decided na next sem nalang since may mga under program pa yung Management like Finance and Marketing. Marami akong lessons na dapat i-review. I have to start now..I barely have a week.
I think we also don’t have classes this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday, for the AM session only, because the faculty members will have a meeting which will start at 7:00am. Classes will resume at 1:00pm..so our schedule was affected. Wednesday, because it’s the feast day of one of our patron saints, St. Dominic.
Since we don’t have classes on Wednesday, I can be able to watch on Star Sports 32 the Rogers Masters Tennis Cup which will be held on Montreal, Canada. Roger Federer will defend his title there for the 2nd time, I think? I’m so excited..I can see Federer again playing..I kinda miss him and his moves on the court. He’s really fantastic..and good-looking..haha! I’ve saw a picture of him when he’s still a bit young. I’ll share it here..he still got his long hair..look closer! (.^__^.)
See…what level are you? (.^__^.)
UST will have a game vs. ADMU tomorrow. It’s a do or die game so that UST will be included on the final 4 list of teams for the first round. Support UST.. Go tigers!
Okei..till here nalang. Just look below this post for my updates last July 27, 26, 25 and 24. So sorry for the late update. If wala pa..I’ll just tell it on my cbox if I already updated it..Thanks! Bye! (.^__^.)
Never say die attitude...that's the character of a true Champion!
**Go USTe...**
After 10 years of eager waiting - - The UST tigresses team had finally got the title for the season '69 UAAP Championship for Women's Volleyball division! Isn't that good news for this new year? UST had won another title... seems like you can't really beat the heart of the Champions. But before anything else..I will share first what happened throughout the seaon for the benefit of those who were, unfortunately, haven't seen the entire volleyball games season due to some very important reasons.. out of the country perhaps?! (hehehe..wag ka ng mainip Joan..eto na yung post..) (.__"__.) Since I'm a Basketball afficionado, I didnt care that much about other game events covered by UAAP like volleyball, swimming, softball, table tennis..etc. After I lose the hope of seeing UST Popkings in the final 4 for PBL I stopped watching local and collegiate game competitions and focused myself on watching international Tennis games especially when it was played by Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova.
But everything changed on that very lucky 10th day of January 2007 when I accidentally switched the channel of our television to Studio 23 just because I was bored of the long commercial endorsements shown on Star Sports TV. and I saw this: THE UAAP SEASON '69 VOLLEYBALL GAMES STUDIO 23 I told myself... "Ui, meron palang ganito..wait lang..I'll see first about this and later on switch back to Star Sports.." and the rest is history...!
..hehe joke lang. Of course, you know na what happened. I was stucked on Studio 23 for 3 hours because of watching the game. I was amazed on how ladies of my same age were able to strike the ball that hard to their opponents without even complaining how that act hurts on their arms. Seems like they're enjoying it pa. How can they do that?..on my case when I'm playing volleyball, that hit will produce a swollen grayish spot on my arms that will stay on it for about 2 to 3 days. Obviously, the explanation about that is soo simple..they Love playing volleyball that's why they can't feel the hurt it causes. Love can really do miracles...(^__^)
Anyways, back to my story. As far as I could remember, Adamson and National University players were having their game that day and they were great! (but of course UST is far better than them!) After a set ... the commentators showed the statistics of each team on how far they've reached since the start of the competition. I was shocked and surprised to see UST on rank 1. 8 wins and 0 loss for the 1st round of competition. Next to them was FEU with 7 wins and 1 loss followed by University of the East and Adamson University.
Since that day..I started to watch UAAP again every Wednesday and Sunday and I saw how the UST team played their games well. No wonder, why they were ranked as team no. 1 druing the 1st round. Well, each team has their own weakness din naman kaya during the 2nd round of competition, FEU defeated UST this time and also during the play-offs round where they ranked no. 1, second was UST.
That does'nt matter that much..what important is that our team was on the final 4 and had the twice to beat advantage. Actually, the tigresses almost lost the chance to be on the Finals because of Adamson's well planned game. During their first encounter during the semi-finals, the tigresses lost against the lady falcons. Good thing they bounced back during the rubber match and defeated the other team. And now FEU and UST were on the Finals. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the first of the best-of-three championship game because it happened during my birthday. Of course mas important naman sa akin yung birthday ko kaya I did'nt watch nalang. And besides, I'm confident that UST will win... and my intuition never failed me.. (^__^)
The other team had their very disappointing loss that made their spirits really down. The sad thing is, they're carried their devastating loss upto the 2nd finals game together with their long and sad faces. How can you expect to win if your co-players were like that - - no energy at all. While on the other side, bubbly and confident players were listening to their coaches..expecting to have their 26th Volleyball Championship.
Here are some pictures during the 2nd game held at Blue Eagle Gym:
UST attacks!
(from left to right) Mary Jean Balse, Venus Bernal and another Balse (sorry..I don't know her first name eh..)
UST defense
words of encouragement
UST crowd with the Go USTe cheer!
And..as expected! UST won! Since race to 2 wins ang policy ng UAAP, we're the Champions for Season'69 Women's Volleyball games after 10 years! It's the hunger of winning daw talaga that motivates each player to win the championship. It's the year of the tigers! Kahit sa Men's Baskteball, they waited for a decade and this season is the perfect season to show that UST can be still be champions! We really relived year 96 at season '69 for both Baskteball and Volleyball.
Well, eto lang talaga yun eh.. we're the lucky charms - - since freshmen kami sa UST and we became students this schoolyear..we brought luck to our team..hehe! (.__"__.)
CONGRATULATIONS to UST Tigresses team for winning the Season '69 UAAP Women's Volleyball games. You've shown great pride in each and every game and you deserve to win the title. Go Tigers.. Go USTe..go! go! go!!
...and now, we're on our way to the Over-all Championship title. It really feels great to be a Thomasian! (.__"__.) - The home of the Champions!
